LD50Definition
The median lethal dose — the dose of a drug that causes death in 50% of test animals. LD50 is used in preclinical safety testing and, along with ED50, helps determine the therapeutic index of a drug.
Beispiel
The therapeutic index is calculated as LD50/ED50. A drug with an LD50 of 500 mg and an ED50 of 50 mg has a therapeutic index of 10.
