Medication Adherence

Definición

The extent to which a patient takes medications as prescribed — at the correct dose, frequency, and duration. Poor adherence affects approximately 50% of patients with chronic diseases and is a leading cause of treatment failure, hospitalization, and increased healthcare costs.

Ejemplo

Using a pill organizer, setting phone reminders, and simplifying the regimen (once-daily dosing instead of three times daily) are evidence-based strategies to improve adherence.
