Half-Life

Definition

The time required for the plasma concentration of a drug to decrease by 50%. Half-life determines how often a medication needs to be dosed — drugs with shorter half-lives require more frequent dosing to maintain therapeutic levels.

Example

Ibuprofen has a half-life of about 2 hours, which is why it's typically taken every 4-6 hours.
