Drug-Food Interaction

定義

An alteration in a drug's absorption, metabolism, or effect caused by food or specific dietary components. Some interactions reduce drug effectiveness, while others increase drug levels to potentially toxic concentrations.

Levothyroxine absorption is significantly reduced by calcium, iron, and soy — patients are advised to take it on an empty stomach, 30-60 minutes before eating.
