Enteric Coating

Definición

A polymer coating applied to tablets or capsules that resists dissolution in the acidic stomach environment but dissolves in the alkaline intestine. Enteric coatings protect drugs destroyed by stomach acid or protect the stomach lining from irritating drugs.

Ejemplo

Enteric-coated aspirin passes through the stomach intact, reducing the risk of gastric ulcers while being absorbed in the small intestine.
